Christian Education

Because we believe that the study and application of God’s Word is of the utmost importance, we encourage all – children, youth, and adults – to attend any of our Christian education programs or classes.

ADULT EDUCATION

One way we respond to God’s grace is through devotion and study of His Word. We believe that a well-rounded Christian education leads to a life of caring service to God and to others. We invite our members, visitors, neighbors and friends to join us and explore what it means to be a Christ-follower in today’s world.

Throughout the year, on Sunday mornings, Good Shepherd holds five sessions of Adult Bible Studies.  Each session offers the choice of six to eight studies, so you are sure to find one that interests you.  These classes cover a wide variety of topics including: in-depth Bible studies; church history; Lutheran doctrine; social and cultural issues; religion and politics and; family life.

To help you choose the classes that are right for you, we have instituted an “academic” numbering system, which follows:

  • 100 level courses: Basic, entry-level, requiring no previous knowledge, and no homework. Helpful for any unfamiliar with the Bible and Christian doctrine, or having less study time.
  • 200 level courses:  May be more enjoyable for those who have a basic understanding of the Bible and can do a small amount of homework.  For example, the learner might, each week, read a chapter of a book for discussion.
  • 300 level courses: More complex, and may be more enjoyable for those who have some familiarity with the Bible, and can do a moderate amount of homework.
  • 400 level courses: Very complex, and may be more enjoyable for those who have significant previous knowledge, or can study 4-5 hours each week.

Of course, everyone is welcome to join any class at any time.  This numbering system is intended to give you more information to make your choice.

Most adult education classes meet at Good Shepherd on Sunday mornings from 9:30 – 10:30. For more information about these classes or any other Christian education program, email us at education.gslc@gmail.com, contact the church office (703-437-5020) or visit our online registration form.

CHILDREN & YOUTH EDUCATION

All children and youth are encouraged to be a part of our Sunday morning education program. Sunday School is offered to those in preschool through high school. Each grade level’s class is designed specifically to meet the educational, social, and of course spiritual needs of its participants. Come grow with us!

Sunday School classes meet every Sunday morning during the school year (September-June) from 9:30-10:30. For more information about these classes or any other Christian education program email us at education.gslc@gmail.com or contact the church office at (703) 437-5020.
