New Member Classes

Several times each year, our pastor teaches a series of classes for adults who may be considering membership in the congregation. These sessions include a time of presentation followed by open conversation. Persons from all sorts of religious backgrounds, or no religious background at all, are part of these sessions.

It’s a chance to find out about or be refreshed on the basics of the Christian faith from a Lutheran perspective. Participants learn how Lutherans are “grace-centered” in their understanding of the heart of God; how the Word of God is read, heard, and understood as “Law” (God’s expectations of us) and “Gospel” (God’s actions for us in Jesus); and what it means to be a member of a church in which members are participants and not mere observers. During the newcomers’ classes, participants are urged to raise questions, build relationships, and look forward to ongoing growth.

At Good Shepherd, we encourage all members to grow continually in faith and knowledge. Toward that end, a variety of Bible studies and topical studies are offered on Sunday mornings in sessions that last from seven to 10 weeks. There are also a number of weekday classes. All of these opportunities help us grow as disciples and followers of Jesus Christ.

If you wish to be invited to the next series or simply want more information, phone the church office at (703) 437-5020 or send an email to pastor@gslcva.org .
