Baptism - Photo Op or Calling?

Posted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on January 12, 2025

As you sit in church and hear that the sermon title is about the Baptism of Our Lord do you have questions? Is it reasonable to ask isn’t baptism just an ancient ritual on a liturgical calendar that holds little meaning in our modern world? Or more to the point, why does baptism matter at all? Having asked these questions is baptism relegated to being a source of stale jokes and a photo opportunity. Join us today as Pastor James answers these questions, describing how the gospel writers tell The Story. That is how God’s desire for us to be with Him eternally requires baptism. Baptism calls us to do something special, whereby we are claimed as children of God. In turn, we are called to share with others through love and service that same gift of grace that has been shared with us.
