Bearing the Cross

Posted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on September 15, 2024

In today’s Gospel text Jesus says to His disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” “Take up his cross  . . .” The members of the early church knew exactly what Jesus was saying. They had seen His example. However, no concept has been more corrupted in the common vernacular of today’s world than bearing a cross. Moreover, bearing a cross does not make any sense without the Good News of Jesus Christ. However, as believing Christians bearing a cross is what we must do. Join Pastor James as he shares the sense of “bearing the cross” in today’s everyday world and how the church, and we, as individuals will be challenged to “bear the cross” living the Gospel news of Jesus' life-saving sacrifice for us.
