Confidence without Faculties

After Easter's triumph, doubt creeps in, just as the Israelites questioned God in the wilderness, we too struggle with faith when life's challenges return. Thomas was not merely a doubter; he was an unbeliever so hardened that he rejected his disciples' eyewitness testimony for an entire week, demanding physical proof before he would accept the resurrection. Yet Jesus, with infinite patience, paused the entire mission to the world for one week to reach this one broken disciple, meeting him exactly where his despair had trapped him. In that, moment of grace, Thomas's militant unbelief transformed into the church's boldest confession, "My Lord and my God," proving that no one falls beyond Jesus' love, no matter how far they have fallen. This is Jesus' gift to us: the assurance that He will put the world on hold for you too, reaching through your deepest guilt and shame to restore you through His Word, Baptism, and Communion.
