Love For One Another

Posted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on May 18, 2025

Jesus' "new commandment" to love is not just a suggestion; it’s a divine directive that calls us to embody a sacrificial, patient, and faithful love that mirrors Christ Himself. This love transcends fleeting emotions and urges us to intentionally seek the well-being of others, especially within the church. It stands as a testament to our discipleship and is a hallmark of our Christian identity. Just as the disciples grappled with their own shortcomings—pride, rivalry, and betrayal—Jesus exemplified unwavering agape love, even amidst their failings. His ultimate act of love, displayed on the cross, teaches us that true love is selfless, humble, and sacrificial. As believers, we are encouraged to reflect this profound love in our relationships, marriages, and interactions with everyone we encounter. While we may stumble, just like Peter did in his moment of weakness, our true strength lies in leaning on God’s grace. Let us strive to cultivate a love that is so genuine and evident that even those outside our church walls find it intriguing and appealing. Remember, love isn’t just a nice idea; it’s a commanded act of faith, inviting us all to actively participate in creating a warm and loving atmosphere that radiates both inside and outside our church community!
