Maniac to Messenger

In Luke’s narrative of Jesus’ encounter with the Gerasene demoniac, Christ initially appears solely as a divine healer. However, as Pastor James explores in this week’s message, the passage reveals a deeper, more transformative act. Beyond the casting out of demons lies a profound restoration of identity—an act that mirrors the sacrament of baptism, wherein believers are cleansed with water, marked with the cross of Christ, and sealed by the Holy Spirit. As Jesus commissions the healed man to return to his community and proclaim the mercy he has received, so too are we entrusted with the sacred duty of bearing witness to God’s redemptive work in our own lives, and of proclaiming the boundless love that lies at the heart of the Gospel.
