The Glory & the Cross

Posted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on February 15, 2026

Today’s Gospel leads us up the mountain to witness the Transfiguration—when Jesus’ hidden glory is briefly revealed to Peter, James, and John. Though the details are mysterious, the message is clear: God strengthens His disciples by showing them who Jesus truly is, and the Father commands, “This is my beloved Son…listen to Him.” The radiant Christ of the mount is the same Christ who walks toward the cross on purpose, not as a victim, but as our willing Savior. The Transfiguration teaches us that glory and suffering cannot be separated—there is no true understanding of Jesus’ glory apart from His cross, and no sharing in His glory apart from trusting Him and following Him.
