The Seal

Posted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on October 26, 2025

Reformation Sunday commemorates the 1517 spark of the Protestant Reformation, a movement that reclaimed the centrality of Scripture and the grace of Jesus Christ. Rather than dividing, it calls Christians to unity in faith, humility, and hope for the day when all truth will be revealed in heaven. Martin Luther’s Rose, a symbol born amid danger and conviction, distills the theology of Grace alone, Faith alone, and Scripture alone. Each element of the seal—from the black cross to the golden ring—reflects the Christian journey through suffering, struggle, and joy toward eternal peace. Today, we honor those who risked everything to restore the Gospel’s light, and we recommit to living by faith, not by sight.
