The Showdown of the Two Processions

Posted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on March 29, 2026

Two opposing forces converged on Jerusalem: Christ's unarmed peasant procession from the east versus Pilate's armored war machine from the west, a calculated confrontation between the Kingdom of Heaven and the kingdom of Caesar. Jesus deployed a strategic counter-offensive, riding a humble donkey while the Roman governor commanded cavalry and weapons, each embodying a fundamentally different vision for human existence. The entire city mobilized in response, recognizing this was not merely a ceremonial entry but a decisive battle for the human soul. This ancient clash echoes through every heart today: the will to power demands control, domination, and self-centeredness, while the will to life calls for love, peace, gentleness, and self-surrender. You stand at the fork in the road, which procession will you join? The fruits of the Spirit represent true, lasting power; worldly dominion offers only fleeting illusions. This Holy Week, examine yourself before the Lord and see who your commander is: will you march toward Calvary with Christ; or down the road to worldly conquest?
