The Wait

Posted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on February 02, 2025

In today’s Gospel reading, we see a reflection on the biblical character Simeon, who waited a long time to see the Messiah before he died. It highlights the differences in narrative styles between the Gospels of Luke and Mark. Luke provides extensive detail and dramatic storytelling, while Mark is more succinct.

Join us today as Pastor Johann discusses how Simeon, who is described as righteous and devout, finally sees Jesus at the temple and is left feeling fulfilled. The reflection explores the themes of waiting, anticipation, and fulfillment, drawing parallels between Simeon's experience and that of own lives. The Gospel asks what we are waiting for and whether it is worth the wait, suggesting that sometimes fulfillment is more about the process and internal changes than external events. Ultimately, we are reminded that even in quiet moments, there is hope and a divine presence.
