ABOUT THE RETREAT
Join the women of Good Shepherd for our annual retreat November 7 through 9 in lovely Winchester, Virginia. Our accommodations are at the George Washington Hotel, located in the heart of the city and within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and historic sites.
The retreat begins Friday evening with a causal get together and opening devotion. On Saturday we will enjoy a buffet breakfast and have our first session from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Enjoy lunch and the afternoon on your own. We will reconvene at 5:00 p.m. for our evening study and a group dinner. Free time after dinner includes games and fellowship time.
Sunday morning, we share a buffet breakfast and have our final session from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by a worship service and farewell.
Cost for the weekend including 2 breakfasts and one dinner are as follows: Single ($480), Double ($280), or Triple ($215).
Note: An extra night's stay is $129 plus tax.
THE BIBLE STUDY
Endure – things we go through and things that will last… we will dig into Hebrews 12:1-3 following the theme for the 2025 LCMS Youth Gathering in New Orleans. Each verse has its own focus and application. Jesus endured through rejection and suffering, so we know he understands our times of trials. The church has endured through generations, even with broken sinful people who have endured through faith. Together as we keep our eyes on Jesus, we do not grow weary or fainthearted and we continue to endure until we are united with Jesus in heaven. As we explore the different definitions of endure, we will be encouraged by each other’s stories and the truth that we do not walk this faith journey alone.
ABOUT KRISTA
Our featured speaker is Krista Young. Krista’s name is a shortened version of Kristen (“Christian” in the Pidgin language spoken in Papua New Guinea, where she was born and raised) and means follower of Christ. As a missionary kid and child of Lutheran school teachers, Richard and Loretta Adler, who dedicated their lives to the work of the church, Krista saw what it meant to be a follower of Christ in all circumstances.
Before joining LCMS Mission Advancement, Krista has been blessed to share her gifts as a Director of Christian Education (DCE) and as a missionary in East Africa. She is in awe of the many ways our church is sharing the love of Jesus. As a Mission Advocate, Krista helps the church learn all the wonderful ways the church is sharing the Gospel around the world. She visits with God’s people who support the work of the church and gives presentations about how folks can get connected to the mission.
One of her favorite Bible verses is Psalm 139, especially verse 14: “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” Each of us have individually unique stories of God’s provision and faithfulness in our lives that can encourage and uplift each other. Joel and Krista have been married thirty-three years and have two young adult daughters. They live in the mountains of Western North Carolina where Joel teaches Social Studies at Cherokee High School. Krista enjoys gardening, walking her dog, drinking morning coffee with a view, meeting new friends, and spending time with her family.
