Midweek Recharge: The Wait for Post-Pandemic Life
Jul 22, 2020
Detail
We’re still finding out how much patience it takes to get past the “new abnormal.” We’re weary of the present and wary of the future. But waiting is what Christians do. We’ve been faithfully anticipating the Second Coming of Jesus for almost 2000 years. And God, with everlasting love and patience, waits for us and with us, as well.
This week’s devotion includes an anthem by the Good Shepherd Sanctuary Choir: "We Are Surrounded" (words by J. Paul Williams, music by Joseph M. Martin). The lyrics are below.

We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses,
Looking on, encouraging us to do the will of the Lord!
We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.
Let us stand worthy and be faithful to God’s call.
We must not grow weary doing what is right;
As we run with joy the race, we must run with all our might.
We must lay all earthly things aside that would hold us down.
We must claim the victory if we would win the crown.
We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses,
Looking on, encouraging us to do the will of the Lord!
We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.
Let us stand worthy and be faithful to God’s call.
