Christ the Cardiologist

Posted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on September 01, 2024

Jaroslav Pelikan, an American scholar of the history of Christianity wrote “Tradition is the living faith of those now dead. Traditionalism is the dead faith of those still living.” For many, cultural tradition has become the master and with a blind adherence to traditions, they simply keep going through the motions without a heart commitment. In Mark’s gospel story for today, we see that the same is true for the Pharisees in that they have redefined God’s decrees according to their own way of thinking and accuse anyone who does not follow their rules of not honoring God. Pastor James’ message today centers on how God is interested in good hearts not good habits, and that the biggest heart problem in the church today cannot be made better by any cardiologist's prescription. Join us as he uses Jesus’ message to consider the fact that we need new hearts and that is what’s most important. Jesus Christ is what makes us who we are as a church, the heart of our faith.
