Unbind Him

Posted by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on November 03, 2024

On All Saints Sunday, why do we have a message about the story of raising of Lazarus? In this violent and chaotic world what does this say about our lives and this principal church festival? The story of the raising of Lazarus is familiar and uplifting, but in the end through the unbinding of Lazarus, Jesus provides a singular challenge for all Christians. Join Pastor James as he reminds us, as saints while here and not yet, in heaven, we have work to do, a call to answer, a resurrection life to lead here and now. “Unbind him and let him go!” is our mandate and marching orders, for the God who answered Jesus’ prayer in bringing Lazarus forth from the tomb, the God who raised Jesus from death, the God who promises us life eternal – is not finished yet! We are the instruments of God’s resurrection life, grace, and power here and now. Rejoice with us today as we remember the saints we have loved, and the light of Christ that burned so brightly through their lives.
